VOC April point race

With the cherry blossom petals floating in a light sirocco and the sun reluctantly warming the morning, you knew summer was just a wind shift away.
Eight boats set out for the ten O'clock start. The usual crowd jousted on the narrow start line with two new comers; Santana, a 38ft German design, and Wondelar Jr., a 23ft Farr design. The southern breeze removed the weather mark, and all the boats raced for the first buoy which sat solemnly at the mouth of the bay rolling in light air. There were 3 groups of boats fast, faster, and fastest. The fast crowd was Wondelar and Blue Shark Jr. and they finished the race in about 8000 seconds. The faster crowd consisted of Venus (J24), Santana, Asama (Yamaha 28), and Ronin Fools (J24) they completed the race in about 7300 seconds, with Venus crossing the line 2 seconds before Santana. The last group was the fastest, not really a group but rather a pair, Azure (32ft Deheler) and Kasumi (32ft J-boat). These two usually dance at the front of the club races and they hip hopped around the course in roughly 6700 seconds.

Azure was first home, but it was Venus who probably had the best race. She started last and sailed through the light air quickly jumping on the Unemployed Fools' hip which they stuck too for most of the race. It was like something on the bottom of your hull that you couldn't get off. They finally passed Ronin Fools at the third mark, the island! Ronin Fools made a poor sail change and the stalkers, Venus, slipped by with a clean sail change. Venus's crew work was great as she hoisted her kite three times, two which gybe sets. Unfortunately the tandem could not hold on for the win in the club house. On adjusted time Ronin Fools claimed their first victory of the season.

桜の花が柔らかい風に散る中辛うじて暖かい日（4月15日）１０時にスタートしました。８パイの船が、新参のサンタナ（ドイツ製３８フィート）、ワンダラーJr.(２３フィートFarrデザイン)と共に狭いスタートラインに競い群がります。南風がウエザーマークを流してしまいました。それですべての船は湾口で光に揺れている正式の第１ブイへ向かいました。レースの船は３つに分けられました、「早い」、「もっと早い」、「最も早い」という３つのグループです。「早い」グループは、ワンダラー、とブルーシャークで最終的には8,000秒でフィニシュしました。「もっと早い」グループはヴィーナスJr.（J24）、サンタナ、アサマ（ヤマハ２８）、そしてロウニンフールズ（J24：私）により形成されており、約7,300秒でフィニシュし、ヴィーナスがサンタナより2秒早くゴールしました。最後の「最も早い」グループは、アズ（デヘラー３２）とカスミ（J-３２）の2艇でした。彼らはいつもクラブレースで前のほうを行っています。今回は約6,700秒でゴールしました。
アズがファーストホームでした。しかしヴィーナスが一番良いレースをしたと思えます。ヴィーナスは最後のスタートでしたが、もたもたしているロウニンフールズを追い上げてきました。私の船は魔物が船の底にへばりついている様に動きませんでしたよ。彼らはロウニンフールズを第3マークの島で抜き去りました。ロウニンフールズはセール交換で失敗しましたがヴィーナスはうまくやりました。ヴィーナスの3回のスピン揚げとジブ交換のクルーワークは見事でした。でも残念ながら彼らは優勝は出来ず、修正でわがロウニンフールズがシーズン最初の優勝を手にしました。
